Life Drawing 24/03/09

Here's what I came up with at this weeks life drawing. It was a different model but she adopted the same pose as before. The pose was really long so with the time left at the end I tried to do a profile portrait. She had a great face, I think she was half Cuban, with densely curled hair. The hair reminded me of that classic Milton Glaser Bob Dylan poster, so I tried to evoke a bit of that in the design of the curls, but failed and ran out of time.

Oh well.

Dragon Castle

Here's an image I finished earlier this week. A bit of a departure from my usual compositional style, but an enjoyable process nonetheless. I think you'll be seeing a few more of these in the near future.

I think the content owes more than a passing nod to Sleeping Beauty, of which I've watched numerous times recently. The amazing graphic stylings of Eyvind Earle and the great character work of Tom Oreb being of notable interest to me.

Early Life Drawing

Here's something from a life drawing class I'm taking in town.

I think the pose was about 30 mins long, so I had time to block in my shapes with a blue Prismacolor pencil then go straight in with a fine liner. I was quite pleased with how the graphic shapes came out, so when I got back to my mac I tweaked it a bit and added some colour.
